PODCAST: Is having a home course desirable in 2014?

As a member of a private golf club, I can say I joined because I liked the idea of not waiting to play golf when I wanted, accompanied by people who love the game as much as I do. It had nothing to do with prestige or a sign of prosperity. That apparently may be representative of a change in how people view memberships, according to a piece in the Pittsbugh Post-Gazette.

So, is having a home course something golfers really want in 2014? Or would you prefer to play around -- locally or out of the area?

What could be perceived as a change in preference could well be reflected in how we think about course openings, however rare, around the United States.

We explore in a special, mini edition of "The 19th Hole Golf Show."
