Augusta National adds IBM CEO Virginia Rometty as 3rd female member

The woman many thought would be the first female member of Augusta National is now its third. IBM CEO Virginia "Ginni" Rometty has become a member of the home of the Masters, according to a Golf Digest report.

Rometty joins former Secretary of State Condoloeezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore as the club's female members. Moore and Rice joined the club in 2012, with the club announcing their membership in a rare acknowledgment of who belongs to Augusta National. Golf Digest reached out to Augusta National and IBM to comment on Rometty's membership; neither provided an affirmative response.

When she became IBM CEO in 2012, Rometty was assumed to be the club's first member as it had become a minor tradition for the CEO of Big Blue to don a green jacket. That membership wasn't automatically extended, leading to questions Rometty declined to answer while entertaining clients at that year's tournament.

Yahoo! founder Jerry Yang is also among the class of new members, typically initiated in the fall.
