We'll probably know sometime in early 2015 who will be the next European Ryder Cup captain. The whispers seem to suggest it's come down to either 2011 Open champion Darren Clarke or the effervescent Miguel Angel Jimenez.
While no one's made much of it publicly, there's been an insinuation that Jimenez's English may prevent him from landing the captaincy. That's a ridiculous notion, and outgoing Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley recently diminished that theory.
"I can tell you right now, I have never had a problem understanding Miguel’s English," McGinley said, according to Irish Golf Desk. "His English is perfect, it is just like a thick Kerry accent.”
The Irishman offered a further endorsement, painting Jimenez as a much deeper man than the cigar- and wine-loving character we see.
“There’s a huge amount going on," McGinley said. "A huge amount."
