Welcome into a new regular feature, called 6-Second Reviews, where we feature golf equipment here at Golf News Net and on the video-sharing service, Vine. We kick off the series with Puma Golf's Faas golf-shoe line.
Golf shoes are changing. They're lighter, lower to the ground and often do not come equipped with the traditional spikes that require a wrench and some patience every so often.
With its latest offering, Puma Golf combines all of these features together in their Faas Lite Mesh shoe. The result? A great gamer shoe that can be your go-to for daily play.
The shoe is the lightest on the market at the moment, coming in at 6.5 ounces, which puts it closer in weight to a track shoe than a traditional golf shoe. The feet feel happier having to walk with so much less weight on them, especially on hilly courses.
FaasFoam+, the secret to the shoe's economical weight, is a blend of foam and rubber that is 25 percent lighter than the company's previous foams. However, the foam does not force the golfer to sacrifice performance.
True to its name, the Faas Lite Mesh has a mesh outer, which allows the foot to breath and move nicely as it encounters the various surfaces of a golf course. Obviously, very wet conditions are not the friend of this shoe, but Puma offers a waterproof version of the shoe, the Faas Lite, tacking on a couple of ounces in exchange for all-weather playability.
Underneath, the shoe has corrugated flex grooves, which create for solid traction in a minimalist-style shoe. It compares well to TRUE Linkswear's sensei shoe, but their nubs seem to fare a little better on wet grass than the Faas.
The sole of the Faas leaves the golfer at a consistent height relative to the ground, which is a trend in progressive shoe construction.
The rounds we've played with the Faas Lite Mesh have been a delight. Bottom line: the shoe handles well and looks good.
The Faas Lite Mesh comes in blue/limeade, vibrant orange/white or classic white/black for men and black/virtual pink or white/brilliant blue for women. It retails for $90.
