Cutten begins Episode 120 by recounting his early childhood golf influences — his father and grandfather — and shares how the two got Keith interested not only in playing golf but also in its course design principles. He talks about his career as a team member on some of the game’s most notable design projects in Nova Scotia (both courses at Cabot Links, plus an upcoming short course, and the recent renovation work at The Algonquin) and discusses how he sees his place in the world of architecture moving forward.
Cutten then explains how he got the idea for “Evolution” and how he committed to the process of researching, writing and publishing the this book of historical research. He details why he believes “The Evolution of Golf Course Design” is unlike any book written previously about course architecture, what separates it from earlier literature on the subject, and what he hopes readers will learn. Finally, Cutten describes the process of collecting the photographs and diagrams used in the book, and shares what surprised him the most during the research and writing process, which has spanned multiple years.
