Social media is a major driving force in golf today, and Zeb Welborn has taken that relevant bull by the horns. The creator of #GolfChat on Twitter (Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific) and owner of 19th Hole Media, Welborn joins hosts Mitch Laurance and Darin Bunch on this episode of the “Talking GolfGetaways” podcast brought to you by 2UNDR apparel.
Zeb begins with a discussion of how he created #GolfChat back in 2014, which serves to connect all golfers and related golf interests in a weekly online Twitter discussion. He talks about the growing worldwide interest in the discussion forum and plans for the future as more and more “golfchatters” interact both online and in person at golf courses around the world. Zeb’s description of the light-hearted nature of the chat and the influence of the Twitter format, which promotes a refinement of ideas into bite-size chunks and a free-flowing and creative interaction among the participants, is most interesting, and a great explanation of why #GolfChat is called “the fastest hour in golf.”
Zeb then discusses his involvement with 19th Hole Media, and explains his mission to help grow the game, especially for smaller golf courses, using his social media background. Starting with Los Serranos in Chino Hills, California, Zeb details the path he took to helping other clients utilize the power of social media and building a client list that has now grown outside his Southern California base to include courses in Chicago and Northern California — and further explains how his book “The Social Golf Course” was integral to his growing business.
Listening to Zeb’s passionate episode, you’ll understand why so many golfers and golf courses are in his debt for the leadership role he’s taken to grow our game. Enjoy the connection with Zeb Welborn.
