Jason Deegan, senior staff writer for GolfAdvisor.com, joins hosts Mitch Laurance and Darin Bunch for a “Talking GolfGetaways” discussion of a great one-two punch in Mississippi — the new Gil Hanse-designed Mossy Oak and iconic Old Waverly, designed by Jerry Pate and Bob Cupp.

Given his extensive travel schedule, which this fall saw him travel to France and Asia as well as many destinations in the United States, Deegan begins the episode answering Darin’s question on the state of course construction around the world.

“Deegs” mentions hot spots where new courses are springing up, which bodes well for a controlled approach to golf course growth. The relationship between Mossy Oak and Old Waverly in West Point, Mississippi, is a case in point — and both Darin (who recently visited both tracks as well) and Deegan explain why they were taken with Mossy Oak as a stand-alone prairie links as well as part of the overall destination experience provided by Old Waverly.

They discuss the lodging opportunities available to traveling golfers, which allow golfers to take advantage of great food and drink spots as well as both golf courses. And finally, Deegan reinforces why Mississippi is worth the trip — even though it might be a bit remote for some — with suggestions of courses to play throughout the state.
