It looks like the brand with 3 stripes will be clothing the country whose flag has 13.

In a Tuesday news conference at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, USA Golf Federation announced adidas golf as the official clothier of Team USA in the game's return to the Olympics in 2016.

Adidas golf will also release USA Golf-branded clothing for sale later this year.

If the cutoff for the Olympics were Monday, only one TaylorMade-adidas golf staffer, Dustin Johnson, would be among the four men to qualify for the 60-player tournament. Tiger Woods (Nike), Phil Mickelson and Zach Johnson (Oakley) would qualify.

On the women's side, TaylorMade-adidas staffer Paula Creamer would qualify, as would Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson (Puma Golf) and Cristie Kerr (Lacoste).

For those who scoff at the idea of Woods, or any other player, wearing a different brand's clothing in international competition, that's an annual compromise for American players who make the Ryder or Presidents Cup teams on the men's side and the biennial Solheim Cup on the women's side.
