Despite the massive damage and staggering loss of life caused by Typhoon Haiyan in many parts of the Philippines, Asian Tour officials decided to continue with this week's inaugural Manila Masters.
Chinese player Liang Wen-chong took the title at Southwoods Golf and Country Club in a playoff over Prom Meesawat of Thailand, then announced he would be donating half of his $135,000 first-place check would be given to provide relief to typhoon victims.
"Before coming over to the Philippines, I was really affected by what I saw of the damage and victims suffering from the aftermath of the typhoon on television," Liang said, according to the Asian Tour's website. "I've decided to donate 50 percent of my winnings to do my part and support the relief efforts."
