Nick Faldo's Champions Tour debut was short and sour.

Faldo withdrew from the SAS Championship in Cary, N.C., on Friday after 13 holes, citing an elbow injury. After hitting his tee shot on the 13th at Prestonwood C.C., Faldo pulled out of the event.

The six-time major winner felt the injury flare up on the sixth green, making an otherwise benign movement, according to Golf Digest. The injury left him unable to grip the club how he wanted.

"I really wanted to play. I was really looking forward to it, gearing up to do this. But this is a bad one," said Faldo. "I can't hit the darn thing. You don't know whether you're going to flinch and hit it left or right. Tournament golf asks a little bit more, doesn't it?"

Faldo said he aims to rest his injury and will hope to make a full-fledged debut soon.

The three-time Open Champion played last at Muirfield in July, missing the cut in his first major tournament start since 2010.
