In the six years of the FedEx Cup concept, only three players on the PGA Tour have managed to make it through the playoff gauntlet each year. Those three men -- Open champion Phil Mickelson, semi-retired Steve Stricker and d new dad Hunter Mahan -- are poised to do it again and continue their streak.
With two playoff events in the books, Mickelson sits sixth, with Stricker at eighth and Mahan at 18th in the standings.
The PGA Tour says Mickelson and Stricker are "likely" to make next week's Tour Championship in Atlanta, while Mahan still looks good to get to East Lake.
However, even though Stricker looks like a lock to qualify for the playoff finale, he may not compete in it. The semi-retired player is considering staying home to be a part of a hunting trip instead. (Really?)
Here's a look at how Mickelson, Stricker and Mahan have finished in the FedEx Cup standings through the first six years of the competition.
