The USGA didn't give fans a Tiger Woods-Sergio Garcia grouping in the first two days of the 2013 U.S. Open, but they did the next-best thing.

Woods is grouped for the first two days next week at Merion with Rory McIlroy and Masters champion Adam Scott in a grouping of the top three players in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The trio will tee off Thursday at 1:14 p.m. ET and Friday at 7:44 a.m. It's the third consecutive year for the grouping of the world's three highest-ranked players, but Woods and Scott were together in a similar grouping along with Phil Mickelson in 2008 at Torrey Pines. Woods and McIlroy have never played alongside one another in a major.

McIlroy reacted to the grouping, as sent out in a tweet by the USGA, with a tweet of his own: "Decent group for the first 2 rounds at Merion I see...."

The USGA will release the full list of groupings and tee times for the first two rounds of the U.S. Open later on Friday.
