Mickelson not quite yet an owner of the Padres

Phil Mickelson may have been touted as part of an investment group that now owns Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres, but the four-time major winner has yet to commit the cash to secure his spot in the new owners' box.

Mickelson has not paid the O'Malley Group, the family which formerly owned the Los Angeles Dodgers and whose $800 million bid to purchase the franchise was approved by MLB owners this month, for his share of ownership in the struggling ball club, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

There is still room, however, for Mickelson to join the group.

“We have a spot in our group for Phil and only Phil,” said Peter Seidler, one of the members of the O'Malley family involved in the new ownership group. “We expect that to be finalized in two weeks."

Mickelson would be the 14th member of the group.
