Encompass bringing Champions Tour event to Illinois

The Champions Tour pro-am event long held in Tampa will be moved north to Illinois next season.

The Encompass Championship will be a new event from be held at North Shore C.C. in Glenview, Ill., from June 17-23, 2013. The Illinois-based insurance company signed a three-year deal to sponsor the event.

Encompass sponsored long-standing pro-am event held at TPC Tampa Bay in April, but worked to create a new event closer to their headquarters. North Shore Country Club, an Alister MacKenzie design near Chicago, hosted of the 1933 U.S Open.

The Encompass Championship format will also be a pro-am, with amateurs competing alongside pros on Friday and Saturday in an event separate from the stroke-play competition among the 81 pros in the field.

No word if the Tampa event will remain on the schedule in some fashion.
