Ben Kohles got his first crack at the PGA Tour on Thursday. Unfortunately for University of Virginia product, it was the worst round in his very short pro career.

Kohles shot 2-over 72 at Sedgefield CC in Greensboro, N.C., to trail leader Carl Pettersson by 10 shots after Day 1 at the Wyndham Championship.

Starting at the 10th hole, Kohles bridged the two nines in his round in a four-over stretch through Nos. 18, 1 and 2, with a double bogey sandwiched in at the first. The rookie battled back, however, making four birdies in the final six holes to finish in a tie for 116th place.

The 2-over total was his worst in 13 rounds as a pro. Then again, it's best to get the bad rounds out now.

Since he won his first two professional starts on the Web.com tour, Kohles has guaranteed his place on the PGA Tour next season by finishing in the top 25 on the Web.com Tour money list.
