American Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III rounded out his barber-shop quartet of assistant captains on Monday, adding Jeff Sluman and Scott Verplank to his staff bound for Medinah next month.

Love had already named Mike Hulbert and Fred Couples as his first two assistant captains, announcing their appointment  at the AT&T National at the onset of July.

"Obviously two close friends of mine, guys that have been around the game a long time," Love said Monday. "Other than Scott, who has played Ryder Cup, we have guys who have been captains of teams and  assistant captains. These are guys that I trust. They're close friends of mine. They're very engaged already, given me a lot of great advice."

Sluman was an assistant captain alongside Love at the last Ryder Cup, when Corey Pavin was captain. Mike Hulbert was the lone assistant captain to Curtis Strange in the 2002 matches. Couples is the two-time winning Presidents Cup captain, preparing to serve a third term in 2013 and perhaps ascend to the Ryder Cup captaincy in '14.

Love will put Sluman to work right away, sending the local assistant captain to Medinah to scout out the host course near Chicago.
