Harrington to play in Reno-Tahoe Open

Padraig Harrington didn't earn a spot in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational next week, so he will instead compete in the Reno-Tahoe Open, opposite the Firestone tournament.

The three-time major winner will be making his debut in the event, starting Aug. 2 at Montreux Golf & Country Club, according to the Associated Press.

Harrington, ranked 60th in the latest  Official World Golf Ranking, missed landing a place in the field for the year's third World Golf Championships event because he did not crack the top 50 after the Open Championship.

The Irishman has experienced a bit of a resurgence this season, earning $1,182,785 on the PGA Tour and ranking 62nd in FedEx Cup points.

Scott Piercy is defending champion of the event.
