Robert Karlsson withdrew from the Open Championship on Wednesday, saying he needs to work on his game.

"Just pulled out of the British open," Karlsson tweeted. "Have got into some bad habits in my game and routine that I need to address. taking a few weeks off."

With 157 players in a starting field typically capped at 156 competitors, the R&A will not replace Karlsson in the field with first alternate Ben Crane. Another player will have to withdraw for Crane to get into the field.

The tee times will also change. Barry Lane and James Driscoll were set to begin the championship as a twosome at 6:19 a.m. on Thursday, followed by Richard Finch and Garth Mulroy at 6:30 a.m. Those groups will now be combined into single group starting at 6:30 a.m. local time, with Finch player replacing Karlsson in the 1:10 p.m. local time threesome with Mark Wilson and Branden Grace.
