The 2016 U.S. Open will resume Round 1 play on Friday, with 69 players in the intended Thursday morning wave still yet to finish their first 18 holes.
Play will resume at 7;30 a.m. on Friday, with the original afternoon wave from Thursday slated to start on Friday at approximately 8 a.m. Those 78 players will complete Round 1, leading into the start of Round 2 at approximately 2:30 p.m. The second wave -- those players in the half of the draw that teed off on Thursday -- will not start Round 2 at all on Friday.
That means Round 2 play will spill over to Saturday, with the day starting again at 7:30 a.m. The round should finish at approximately 2 p.m., barring no delays. At that point, a 36-hole cut will be made to the top 60 players and ties. The USGA will set tee times in threesomes going off the first and 10th tees, starting at approximately 2:15 p.m. with the aim to finish the third round on Saturday and have the final round as scheduled on Sunday.
