Bubba Watson was clearly inspired by the European Tour's challenge last week in Spain to beat the Guinness World Record for the fastest-ever time for a relay team to complete a par 5. A four-man French team set the new mark by making birdie in a staggering 34.8 seconds.
The two-time Masters champion figured he could form a team that could do even better.
In China for this week's Shenzhen International, Watson found himself a 503-yard par 5, which curves around a pond, to break the record. Watson, of course, hit the drive, cutting off the entirety of the hole by flying his drive over the water hazard and into a greenside bunker. It's then that player manager Randall Mells hit the bunker shot to about 4 feet, and caddie Ted Scott made the eagle putt. Agent Jens Beck was the greenside cameraman.
Unlike the European Tour's effort, Watson and company didn't have the Guinness World Record people on hand to certify the record. And we don't know if they'd scoff at Watson effectively turning the hole into a driveable par 4. However, there is video, so, who knows? We might have a new world record.
