Tyrone Van Aswegen is grateful for a fog delay on Sunday at the Frys.com Open that pushed tee times back 20 minutes. Had the fog not rolled in, he wouldn't have been given the time he needed to get out of a local hospital.
On Sunday, Van Aswegen woke up dizzy and exhibiting signs of vertigo. He was examined by the on-site tournament physician and taken to a hospital in an ambulance. He was given two intravenous bags of fluid. An hour before the scheduled tee time, he still was in a hospital bed. However, he was eventually released, but not without still feeling dizzy.
“I got out here and my goal was to finish the round,” he said.
He shot 4-under 68 and finished T-3, an incredible effort and one that will go a long way in helping the 33-year-old South African avoid the Web.com Tour Finals again after finishing 191st in FedEx Cup points last season.
So what was the toughest part of getting through the final round at Silverado Resort? “Putting was the most difficult for me.”
