Sammy Schmitz went dormie in the 36-hole final of the U.S. Mid-Amateur on Thursday in the most amazing way possible.

Schmitz pulled driver at the 260-yard par-4 15th hole at the West Course at John's Island Club in Vero Beach, Fla., hoping to find the green. He did way better, holing out his tee shot for a par-4 ace that put him 3 up with three to play against Streamsong caddie Marc Dull.

On the next hole, the 34th of the match, Schmitz and Dull tied with 3s on the 233-yard par-3 16th to end the match with a 3-and-2 victory.

Schmitz ended the morning 18 with a 2-up edge, winning four of eight holes after losing the first two to Dull. In the afternoon 18, Schmitz never lost the lead, though Dull did reduce the edge to a hole with a rare double-bogey win on the 27th hole of the match. Schmitz won two of the next three holes before losing the 32nd hole of the match with a bogey 6. The ace on the 15th essentially put the match away for Schmitz.

With the win, Schmitz earns a trip to the Masters.
