PREVIEW: Scotty Cameron Futura X7 and X7M putters

The newest head designs from Scotty Cameron were created with one thing in mind: forgiveness.

The Futura X7 and Futura X7M heads are larger than the average putter head and build with a aluminum and stainless steel pieces to create a high-moment-of-inertia (MOI) putter that performs as one would expect from a Cameron.

The Futura X7 is a wing-back mallet head that's an evolution from the Futura X5, coming in 10 percent larger. It has a T-back set of alignment lines. The Futura X7M -- M is for MOI -- is a pop-through, bar-back mallet head that offers additional forgiveness by moving weight away from the middle of the head and positioning it in back and on the sides.

There's also a Futura X7M Dual Balance putter, which uses the X7M head and combines it with counterbalanced weighting. The head weighs an additional 50 grams (400 grams in total) and has a 50-gram counterweight on the 15-inch grip (on a 38-inch shaft) for a more stable stroke, somewhat simulating the stability found in an anchored stroke.

In the standard models, available in 33-, 34- and 35-inch lengths, a 10-inch, 77-gram Matador midsize grip comes standard.

All Futura X7 models feature a single bend shaft with a high bend point and one-shaft offset.

Each Futura X7 head is has two key pieces: an aluminum face-sole core welded to a 303 stainless steel frame in five places. The aluminum face creates an ideal sound and optimizes feel while the heavier stainless steel keeps weight back and low for optimal MOI.

The Scotty Cameron Futura X7 (MAP: $379), Futura X7M (MAP: $379) and Future X7M Dual Balance (MAP: $399) putters will be available in stores on Oct. 23.
