When a new golf course opens in the United States these days, it's a big deal. So consider it news that Jack Nicklaus has been hired to build a signature design in the city of Wilmore, Ky., just outside Lexington.

The firm Legacy Point Capital has signed on with Nicklaus' design firm to construct the eponymous Legacy Point course in a bucolic area set among farmland. The course will be part of a master-planned community, including residential and commercial development.

Nicklaus already has a significant footprint in the Bluegrass State, with the PGA of America-owned Valhalla serving as host to three PGA Championships, the 2008 Ryder Cup and two Senior PGA Championships.
