Jim Furyk's status for next week's Presidents Cup in South Korea is still unclear, even to U.S. captain Jay Haas.
Furyk pulled out of last week's season-ending Tour Championship with a wrist contusion that he suffered during the pro-am for the Deutsche Bank Championship. The 2010 FedEx Cup champion pulled out of the BMW Championship after six holes in the first round, marking the first time in 20 years Furyk withdrew from an event.
However, Haas said on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio that Furyk isn't sure one way or another if he'll play.
“Jim is still testing his wrist,” Haas said. “I don’t think it’s quite where he wants it to be, but he’s doing everything he can to be there.”
Furyk has until 6 p.m. local time on Oct. 7 to decide if he can compete.
Haas said that he has a potential alternate identified, but he didn't share that player's identity. Speculation is that Brooks Koepka would be Furyk's replacement. Whoever it is, they've been outfitted with team clothing and has a plane ticket in case he's needed to play.
