We're getting into the best time of year to play golf. In the fall, the tee sheet isn't as full, even on the weekends. The ground is still pretty firm, so drives still get some roll. Greens are often pristine, if not as quick as they were in the summer.
However, it's the changing of the weather -- and its unpredictability -- that keeps folks from playing. Some days in the fall are more like summer, others like winter and then there are those autumn days that are like three seasons wrapped into one. If you're going to play golf in the fall, you've got to be prepared for bad, or at least unpleasant, weather. That's why you need a good waterproof jacket, if not a good waterproof suit.
adidas Golf's climaproof Gore-Tex two-layer rain jacket is a solid option, which the company sent to us recently as part of its #18_365 campaign. Years of improvements in the design of golf waterproofs have meant the implementation of sometimes unnoticed touches that make playing golf in a jacket not that much different than playing in your normal golf duds.
The all Gore-Tex jacket is seam-sealed with articulation at the elbows to allow you to swing without feeling restricted. This jacket is center-zipped and has a velcro closure on top to keep water out, and the cuffs are adjustable to ensure a good fit. Pockets give you a dry place to put your glove.
Of course, high-end waterproofs don't come cheap, and this jacket is no exception, retailing for $300. However, they're a long-term investment and something you can wear for years to come, so it's better to shell out -- no pun intended -- now than to have to replace your pieces over and over.
