SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Rory McIlroy rolled up his right pants leg, but he made the strange choice to keep his shoes on as he hit a half-submerged ball from the water hazard short of the green at the par-5 fifth hole at Whistling Straits on Thursday in the opening round of the 2015 PGA Championship.

McIlroy pulled off the shot and kept the laundry clean as his ball found the green, leading to a par save. The world No. 1 stayed at even par on his round after a bogey at the first and a birdie on the par-5 second hole.

The defending PGA champion is playing alongside two-time 2015 major champion Jordan Spieth and reigning British Open champion Zach Johnson for the first two days of the season's final major.
