Andrew Orischak didn't win the U.S. Junior Amateur on Saturday in his home state, but some news later in the day softened the sting of defeat.
The South Carolina teen surrendered a 5-up lead in the final of the U.S. Junior Amateur, losing in 37 holes to Philip Barabaree to complete the largest collapse in the championship's history.
However, Orischak found out he'll have his dream prom date next year: Fox Sports host and former Golf Channel personality Holly Sonders.
Orischak, through his dad, made a deal with Sonders earlier in the tournament whereby she would agree to go to his Hilton Head-area high school prom if he won the championship on Saturday.
"I liked the kid’s confidence," Sonders wrote in a piece for Golf Digest.
Sonders gave her phone number to Orischak's mom to show she was serious on the friendly bet after Orischak reached the final on Friday. While he didn't technically win the bet, Sonders, who seems pretty pumped about attending what she said will be her fifth high-school prom, still offered to be Orischak's date next year.
And @AndrewOrischak....I'm happy to go to the 2015 prom with you if I'm still invited. Your mom has my phone number. @FOXSports @FOXSports1

Good for Sonders and great for Orischak, who will have a great prom story to tell for the rest of his life -- better than a lot of us can say.
