The PGA Tour heads out west for a one-week one-off from your typical 72-hole, stroke-play tournament. This week, San Francisco's TPC Harding Park is a special one-time host for the revamped WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship.
The event welcomes 64 of the best players in the world, including almost all of the world top 50 (Phil Mickelson has withdrawn), for a match-play event that begins Wednesday. The format has changed from a tournament-style event from the start to one that opens with round-robin play in 16 pools, with the winner of each group advancing to a 16-man tournament for the title.
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth are the favorites going into what, in the past, has been an unpredictable event.
