It came unglued for Phil Mickelson on No. 12 at TPC San Antonio in Round 1 of the Valero Texas Open. His 8-iron, that is.

Mickelson's tee shot to the short-ish par-4 landed in a fairway bunker, leaving him a somewhat awkward stance from 154 yards. After Mickelson hit the approach shot, the head came off his club, flying a few yards before landing outside of the bunker.

The five-time major winner went on to make bogey on the hole to drop to 1 over par on the round, but rallied to shoot 2-under 70 and trail leader Charley Hoffman by three shots.
