Paul Casey had played himself into contention amid a tight leaderboard in the final round of the Northern Trust Open. Then something ugly happened.
Casey was in the fairway at the par-4 13th at Riviera Country Club, one back of the leaders at 6 under par, when he hit a shank approach. The Englishman's intended shot was a draw into a back left hole location on a green laid out to demand a draw.
However, Casey recovered brilliantly with a third shot to within 6 feet for par and sank the putt for the unlikely save.
The 37-year-old, once ranked No. 3 in the Official World Golf Ranking, is in search of his second PGA Tour win, first since the 2009 Shell Houston Open.
