BG Logo Which Private Course Square Blue BackgroundIt's a pretty cool experience: playing a club that's hosted a major golf tournament. You can replay your favorite shots from memory, seeing if you can pull off what some of the best in the world did or didn't. That's part of what makes Oregon's Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club so special.

Opened in 1992, the 36-hole club has hosted the U.S. Amateur, the LPGA Tour, the U.S. Women's Open and, most recently, the Web.com Tour's Portland Open.

Of the courses on the property, one is open for public play and one is reserved just for members (and Boxgroove members).

The Ghost Creek course is the public course, designed by Bob Cupp with the intent of preserving the natural Oregon wetlands. The par-71 course has four tee boxes, playing to a max length of just over 6,800 yards. The course is named for the "phantom creek" of fog that can run through the property during an early round. Perhaps the best hole on the course is the tough par-4 ninth, whose entire layout will remind you a lot of the punishing closing hole at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral. Water guards the left side of the hole after the driving area, daring you to challenge any pin on the left half of the green.

It's the Witch Hollow course that is probably more familiar to golf fans. It's the course where Tiger Woods architected his comeback against Steve Scott (and his girlfriend) in the 1996 U.S. Amateur. It's where Hilary Lunke shocked the world. The par-5 14th is our favorite on the course, and it's a club-described par 4.5. At just 470 yards, it's reachable with a good drive around the dogleg left. However, a pulled approach to the left could end in disaster.

The golf in Oregon is unbelievable. There's no shortage of it, and Pumpkin Ridge is part of what makes golf in this part of the Pacific Northwest so special. With a Boxgroove membership, your next Oregon golf trip could be even more special with a round at Pumpkin Ridge.
