Michelle Wie is just one round away from completing the LPGA Tour's Qualifying School and achieving Category 11 Priority status on the LPGA Tour for 2009.  With a round of 68 today at the Champions Course at LPGA International, Wie trails Stacy Lewis by a shot going into the final round tomorrow.

Lewis had a great round in her own right.  With 67, she holds the lead by one.

Overnight leader Mollie Fankhauser could not duplicate her Friday round that propeled her to the lead.  She shot 73 today, compared to her 66 from yesterday.  Still, at -11, she is almost a lock to finish in the top 20.  The top 20 players will receive Category 11 Priority status.

An amateur - Japan's Mika Miyazato - has maintained her position in the top 20 all week.  With a 68 today, she has also cemented her place on Tour next year.  The former World Junior Amateur champion has been awaiting this opportunity and appears poised to take advantage of it.

Louise Stahle made the move of the day.  With a 65, she rocketed from 41st to 12th.

Other notables include:

  • Big Break alumnus Jeanne Cho-Hunicke shot 68 and is T9.
  • Anna Rawson is -7 overall and should keep her Tour card through this event for a second consecutive year.

The bottom line for players in the top 20 is -5 right now.  It will likely increase to -7 tomorrow to determine the players that will receive 2009 Category 11 status.

The field was cut to the top 70 and ties after today's round.  Among the players that did not finish 72 holes at +2 or better are: former Kraft Nabisco champion Patricia Meunier-Lebouc, Naree Song, and Big Break champion Bri Vega.
